Michael's vgLog

Some quiet time...

Not much to say atm. Just an update of the vgLog at the end of a 4 day mini-vacation. I have been working on a new logo. It met John's approval, but he has decided to update that a bit as well. So, thre will be a few more improvements there.

All of you experts, soon to-be experts, and even new to AIX experts - share what you know! That is what makes forums a great resource - when we all share our experiences and knowledge.

vgGuides - HOWTO: POWER, AIX and LOP - Step by Step

This HOWTO describes how to combine two standard AIX technologies that can be used to simplify centralized collection and distribution of software updates for AIX.

Rather than use SUMA on every system I setup SUMA on separate systems based on their level of AIX - AIX 5.3 and AIX 6.1. As no new TL or SP are planned for AIX 5.2 and I am phasing AIX 5.2 out I am not using this process for updating the one or two AIX 5.2 systems. For all others I now use SUMA to collect updates and distribute them to other systems via a software server. And since I like pushing resources, I have integrated SUMA into my NIM resources. I'll discuss the how and why below.

In part one we show how to configure the WPAR manager, and in part 2 we show how to register and discover WPAR agents – or AIX 6.1 servers that will be hosting System WPAR's and/or Application WPAR's.

Although the focus is on the WPAR manager – we start with getting the WPAR hosting environment ready. In this case: setting up the NFS environment to support Live Application Mobility.
