Updates and Fixes

Recently IBM has made changes to their support download areas - and everything (i.e. HMC and firmware updates) seems to be redirected to the Fix Central. You will need to navigate through the panels, and learn the new paths - as I am now.
IMHO: new front-end, fine - but dont break/diasble the old ones.Something that was so easy - for experts - has now become real hard.
p.s. I have removed the links on the right that would just redirect you to Fix Central. The IBM Director and VIO Server links are still direct links.

FAQ: AIX

I have been spending some time lately porting opensource packages to AIX. For rootvg forums I am dependent on PHP for example, and as I look for ways to improve things I discover I need yet another module added into php. By the way, php has always been one of the harder opensource packages to get compiled.
Initially, there are just a few questions - because I'll only add a question AFTER I have the anwser.

HOWTO: AIX

Listing Inactive Users
I wanted an easy way to list inactive users (defined as users who had not logged in). I had a solution using perl, but I decided not to use it - because perl might not be installed.
So, I wrote a simplier script using ksh. The example here does have some extra text that I'll probably put behind a verbose flag so I can just create a list of user accounts I want to lock.
