Some quiet time...

Not much to say atm. Just an update of the vgLog at the end of a 4 day mini-vacation. I have been working on a new logo. It met John's approval, but he has decided to update that a bit as well. So, thre will be a few more improvements there.

Progressing slowly with HACMP and virtualization articles. And, as time is available - doing the forums.

All of you experts, soon to-be experts, and even new to AIX experts - share what you know! That is what makes forums a great resource - when we all share our experiences and knowledge.

What is CATE?

CATE stands for Certified Advanced Technical Expert. But that has always been the short name. The complete CATE name has changed - from Certificed Advanced Technical Expert AIX and pSeries to IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert -- IBM System p5 2006 (why they added 2006 to a name is something I cannot answer Wink)

Not for Me!

If you are not really interested in CATE - or maybe you are not interested in HACMP - there are other combinations possible.

Recently I started checking up on several "older" disks formating and certifying them to be sure disk problems were not going to be the cause of problems during HACMP classes.

Basically, there are four generic DISK_ERR mesages, that are repeated for each disk type, e.g. SCSI, SSA, FC, etc., and have their own specific label. The meaning of the 4 messages is the same for all media.

To my surprise getting the WPAR Manager product installed actually took several attempts to get it right.

In this article I"ll run thru the steps with comments and output. As a bonus I'll also include some of the errors I ran into and also what I did to correct the situation. In short, with the proper preparation installing Workload Partition Manager is quite easy. However, getting the right environment can take some time.
