My best guess is that it is not possible to mount a linux filesystem - unless it is made as an ISO9600 or a UDF formated filesystem.

AIX (IBM) uses the term vfs - for virtual file system I believe. In a perfect world there would be a API description telling us how to extend vfs to mount foreign filesystems. However, I fear the world is not perfect  Wink

As an alturnative - if it is about data - an NFS export should work well.

Thanks Michael for your reply.

RBAC isn't an option now. I run 5.3 in a huge environment. It will take years untill the complete 6.1 migration.

I did not give up and if someone has a candle please show up.

Cheers

This is a hard one for me - as I do not use, and have basically never used - sudo.

And starting with AIX 6.1 you dont want to use sudo - RBAC is the way to go!

Hi, It's my first post here. But I'm a very old rootvg user.

How do you guys filter shell escapes on AIX? I have seen that the latest sudoers claims to filter it, however I keep having this error when I try to change accounts:

sudo su - rr5tzu
3004-505 Cannot set process environment.

$ sudo -V
Sudo version 1.6.9p15

Thanks a lot

If that server has an internet connection you only need to grab the first one. There is also some mini isos out there (120M) that you can use to install everything from the internet. Personally I find it just a bit quicker to install via dvd then update and install what I want from the network repositories.

We have had a more or less similair excersie, moving from p590q to p570 (both vio).

We used the mksysb method, and this worked quite OK.

Actually, I am on vacation - and my family claims me - so to be quick. Verify your firmware level. I am not at the latest release, but since I last updated (now at SF240_320 I believe) I have not seen this code.

For your more specific questions I would need to think of more questions for you first. If you are already at the latest firmware level then I must recommend contacting IBM. The information you need should be at the service focal point "Manage Events" application.

If you have been letting the system "Call Home" IBM should already have the error registered and respond "quickly".

Keep us posted!

We are experiencing the same problem here.
But it is then with the serial/ dummy partition.

It can be fixed by stopping this partition. The strange thing is only, that this partion should not be started, it is not even configured?

I also had a case, where a machine lost power, was started up again. The lpar on it should have been started automaticaly, but it is not? This gave the same error? Any tips?
