Boot ip is included in HACMP monitoring and is the IP of the interface. It may be a fake IP like 1.1.1.1 which you can never reach from outside.
Persistent IP is an alias, which you use when you have a problem with your service IP and the node is unreachable.
So you have a persistent IP in order to reach the node

No, boot address is used when you are performing IPAT by replacement.

Persistent addresses are an additional feature of IPAT using IP aliasing.

edit: updated, my short answer was not very clear. thx  tylnaltug for the push in the right direction!

Persistant addresses are added to the interface, but are not moved to another node. The address persists on the node, and once assigned, is added to the AIX ODM as an alias for one of the interfaces. Once HACMP is operating on a node, HACMP ensures that the persistent address is associated with a working interface.

Services addresses are managed by HACMP and are only associated with an interface when a (or it's) resource group is active within the cluster.

Can any one brief about boot IP and persistent IP..

As per my understanding:

Boot IP - Configured on interface...On that Service IP will be aliased. Monitored by HACMP

Persistent IP - Configured on Interface. Will not come under HACMP network. Will be useful when HACMP failure scinario.

Am I right with the understanding???
