If that server has an internet connection you only need to grab the first one. There is also some mini isos out there (120M) that you can use to install everything from the internet. Personally I find it just a bit quicker to install via dvd then update and install what I want from the network repositories.

I see openSUSE has a new release 11.0, and there is a DVD (or CD's) for POWER.

Check http://software.opensuse.org/ for a click to select and download approach.

And the fedoraproject (redhat) also has a download page.

Thx for the extra link. btw on the alioth sourgeforge site there is nothing to see on their progress. It states "planning" phase. Most of the other references I saw was only for getting it started on ppc64 on "older" mac's, i.e. pre-intel days.

When I follow the link I see several DVD images I need to download. Do you know if it is possible to do an install using only the first DVD image - for testing purposes? I am not so worried at this moment about being in 32 or 64 bit mode. That is just icing on the cake. First I need to taste the cake.

I forgot to add the 32bit install iso location to the previous post. It is there now at the end. Once the alioth project releases a full install with out having to do the 32bit work arround I will post a link to the 64bit install.

I added a new article - currently with a link on the front page - to the Novell (SUSE) Integrated stack environment. This is a 60-day support Evaluation version. If you buy it, you get additional support. If you do not buy it, there is no continued support.

I changed the URL you listed to a clickable URL - however, I do not see any installables, or .iso images to download. What am I doing wrong?

Right now the Debian install is a two step process to get a native 64bit userland.
The instructions for installing it is here, kludgy but it works. Reminder that the 64bit version is still in testing stage as I have not found the stable version to be as reliable on my VIO server, but it could have been that it was my fist attempt at working on a LPAR.

Additionally the alioth project is working on porting the installer to 64bit to bypass the 32bit install portion.

I will look to see if I had to any thing odd that I had to do to get this installed.

Have you got a link for the debian install for Linux on Power. For a while at least, SUSE (or Novell) offered an integrated stack. There should still be a bookmark to where that was.

With the new VIOS (1.5+) you can install directly from the iso file - exported as a cd/dvd.

I have installed Debian and CentOS flavors of linux on a POWER5 server before, though in a LPAR only. Personally, I perfer running the debian install as it has better repositories for what I need. I am sure that CentOS has some good repos but they do not have what I need.

Not that I personally know of, other than some links from SUSE/Novell and Redhat.

I have been considering starting such a service, but been waiting a bit for demand.

Anything in particular you are looking for?
