Title: vio configuration with vscsi
Post by: wojtek on May 08, 2008, 05:42:39 PM
Hi,
i have configuration: two vio servers and some of hosts with disks served by vio's.

for each host i have served from vio two discs (one for rootvg and second for oracle binary).
my question is : must i reserved for each host two vhost to configure disks - one disk thru one vhost and second thru second ?

To connect to a single VIO server you need only one VSCSI client adapter, but you may have more.

To connect to multiple VIO servers from a single client, the client must have at least one vscsi client adapter for each host.

So, If I have one client, and two VIO servers - each VIO server will have (at least) one vhost (VSCSI Server) and the client will have at least two vscsi (VSCSI client) adapters - one for each VIO server.

Although you may have one VSCSI client adapter/VHOST pair per disk - it is not generally useful. There are very special situations wherein it might be needed. Generally, per client a VIO server has one vhost and all storage is mapped to that vhost adapter.
