except reboot the system.

thought, hoped partition was up.

Can you assign the card to another LPAR using DLPAR? Does the HMC recognize the new card?

And I am going to try moving this to the new forums as well....  Wink

my first guess is that the card is not seated properly.

I assume that you are using an HMC for controlling your LPAR's. Is the partition running, just no access to slots in RIO?

Check Service Focal Point for error messages regarding the card you just inserted. The ASMI should be monitoring for hardware failures for managed system and attached RIO - afaik.

If the partition is running, and the SFP (Service Focal Point) does not report an error, use lsdev -Cc adapter to find the definition of the OLD adapter, and remove that with rmdev -dl pciX (X beiung the number you found).

If the adapter is for supporting SAN storage, you may need to consult with a SAN specialist - to verify card compatibility, and also that the card is recognized byt the SAN system/network.

after I take off my D20 drawer and replaced a pci adapter,I reactive the
LPAR and get a error state,Lpar is not running. I read the info:

boot error value: IO slot assignment error(0x80).

I from a handbook get the list:

Boot Error Values Message
0x01 NO_GLOBAL_SERVER
0x02 NO_CONTIGUOUS_PAGE_TABLE_MEMORY
0x03 NO_CONTIGUOUS_REAL_MODE_MEMORY
0x04 NOT_ENOUGH_PARTITION_LOGICAL_MEMORY
0x05 ALL_ASSIGNED_PROCESORS_ARE_NOT_WORKING
0x06 NO_PROCESSORS_ASSIGNED
0x07 INVALID_PROCESSOR_ASSIGNED_FOR_ALPAR_PA RTITION
0x08 NO_MEMORY_AVAILABLE_FOR_ALPAR_PARTITION S
0x60 ANOTHER_SERVICE_AUTHORITY_PARTITION_IS_ ACTIVE
0x7F FAIL_TO_BOOT
0x80 I/O_SLOT_ASSIGNMENT_ERROR-------------------is it!!!
0xAC AIX_OS_TERM_WITH_CRASH_CO

but how to correct it? except reboot the system.
