I know nothing for sure, I do not follow the development of cygwin/X, but looking at the project web page it seems not much has happened for the last two years or so... Shame.

Likewise, cygwin/X has always worked for me when I have it installed, but it takes a tremendous amount of disk space. Normally I only use the command-line interface (CLI).

There is never a solution that works everywhere, just ones that work better depending on the problem.

Thanks for you comment!

Question for you: On the Xming site the developer implies that cygwin/X is not actively supported (if at all?). Can you verify this - or is it just a "selling" scheme?

I have some bad experiences with Xming. I once tried to use it to install Oracle on an AIX 5.3TL6SP2 server and failed to get even the first window. I am not saying it was caused by Xming, but cygwin/X did the same job quite well without any tweaking.

Rather than being dependent on having vnc installed on AIX, it is nice to be able to have a X server running on the PC instead.

I always considered the cygin/X product, although free, much too large to install and run.

Today I found something small, and actively supported: Xming (http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/)
