Looks like the missing refs are all gone now, one final link was needed after
implementing Michael's revised re-write rules and aliases.

Apologies for the loss of graphics today for those who didn't have them cached from an earlier session.

I am very pleased with my settings today - how many of you can honestly say they have received not one single spam email in two days - and that's not filtered out or binned in some way, but never received, nothing adding to traffic.  This is down to the aforementioned security measure which backs up would be spammer's mail servers as they lose all contact indefinitely when they attempt to test email addresses or logins etc.

Judging from the latest news about the Chinese reportedly fostering state-encouraged cyber warfare resulting in lots of hacking in to various UK government systems, sounds like they could do with this level of protection which apparently they don't have.

If you have experienced problems getting to this site,
were connected but then the server appears to have just died,
only to come back again 15 minutes later,...

Well that's actually a special security feature you're seeing in action.

When any IP address is noted as doing any three "bad things" during a 15 minute window, it's blocked out - the server then appears dead to that IP only.  Grin

This will happen where there have been three attempts to load non-existent web items, missing graphics or pages etc.  That's not only for deliberate hacking in attempts, but also when we've messed up with a reference in the otherwise working code to something that isn't there.

Therein is a problem which is being worked on now, where this marvelously complex forum template and redirections to the old site have got file locations crossed a bit.  Rest assured it will be fixed soon.  Michael may even have done it by the time I've finished posting this.  Undecided

Please do tell us if you experience any further problems (when you can, after any 15 minute block clears, or from another IP  Roll Eyes )

In case you're wondering, yes all this is really necessary, the server is constantly being attacked by every means it seems.  The security measure protects all types of access to the server, including anything with a login, and for some types of offence the blocking is indefinite once triggered.  So don't try these servers for any general DNS resolving or mail relaying.  we're having no DNS cache poisoning or spam mail here thank-you very much.

The feature is called "blockip" and it's a program of mine that you can buy and thereby help support the working of this site if you like.  Send me a PM if you're interested.
