Hmm. This is almost like a "science-night" to see who can find the answer. I'll have it on a back-burner.
Obviously (imho), as even jfs2 is a finite system, there will be a limit, but it is in petabytes I believe. The theoritical limit is so large that noone has built a system to test it (yet). This
problem
may be the reason for saying there is no
practical
limit. In other words, if you can get enough storage together, jfs2 can fill it.
I do believe there are a few sheets in the old AU14 class (system administration 1) where they discuss the limits of jfs, jfs large-file enabled, and jfs2. I'll see what I can find there.
But, bottom-line is basically, jfs2 is capable of filling any storage system you can build in 2008. Now if
you
want to call that unlimited, then you can specify jfs2 as unlimited.

I believe there is no limit.
I doubt you'll find any IBM doc that specifically states that.
I have seen some financial institutions where some directories have many millions of files.

Been having a hard time finding anything stating this...
I can find the max file size, and some other info, but I need to know the maximum amount of directories/files that can be in a jfs2 filesystem.
I found a wiki stating it was unlimited, but no IBM doc that points this out....
