yeeah..
 Grin

Solution:
I installed this rmp's from
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/aix/products/aixos/linux/download.html

- ghostscript-fonts-6.0-1.aix4.3.noarch.rpm
- urw-fonts-2.0-1.aix4.3.noarch.rpm
- libpng-1.2.8-5.aix5.1.ppc.rpm
- ghostscript-5.50-4.aix4.3.ppc.rpm

After this, i can use the pdf2ps utility
# pdf2ps input.pdf output.ps

I sent the ps file to the best printer in the building and it worked out.
# lp -dlaser10 output.ps

It did not work when i tried to print the ps file to our old HP LaserJet 4100 connected to an Axis 5600 printserver, but hey,, ya cant have it all Wink

Guys thanks for your help, I appreciated it.
If you have more comments about this issue, pls post.
I will investigate further.

I could just supply a link, but we have bookmarks too. Please try the menu on your left: Bookmarks->Downloads-> AIX Toolbox, Opensource.

That takes you to the IBM RPM respository. ghostscript, ghostscript-fonts, and lots of other packages can be found there.

thanks for you repply.
cool..
1.) where can i get the ghostscript? download location? is it free?
2.) how should i define the printqueue? local filtering necesary?

we use "AIX" queueing.
the printer is connected to a remote printserver.

One way, if you have a PostScript printer set up is to use the pdf2ps utility (part of GhostScript) to convert the PDF file to PostScript and then print the output file.

As I almost never print anything from AIX, or from any UNIX actually, this will be a difficult one for me to answer quickly.

But first, one assumption: the file is already .pdf in format, and you want to get that printed?

Roughly, you are going to need a program, or a printer driver, that reads pdf and can send it to the print stream.

The precise statement for sending it to a print queue is going to depend somewhat on the print queing style/mechanism you choose. AIX supports two: system 5 queueing, and "AIX" queueing (very similiar to BSD style). However, only one of the two may be active at a given moment.

Hello,
How can I print PDF documents from AIX?
I would like to do it from the command line (lp -d).
