Title: ST318305LC in P4 610 Post by: Jim on January 11, 2007, 09:21:33 PM Hey All-
I bought an ST318305LC to replace one in my 610, and I can't get the system to even boot off the cdrom if the disk is in the system. I pop it out, and the system goes on its merry little way. Upon closer inspection, though both disks are ST318305LC's, the new one has "xSeries" on the label, instead of "pSeries" and the PN is 24P3674 instead of 09P4436. Jumpers on both disks are set the same. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim Title: Re: ST318305LC in P4 610 Post by: Michael on January 12, 2007, 04:47:32 PM Well, depends on whether you can return it or not. You might try loading some pSeries firmware to it - if you can have it attached at all.
If your seller was an IBM BP, or IBM, obviously, need to head back to them. In other words, my best guess is that the physical disk is the same, but the firmware, and drivers will need to be different. Not a pleasant surprise. I guess that IBM buys the disks and then tweaks them ... ???

Getting the FRU is easy - use lscfg # lscfg -vl hdisk0 hdisk0 U0.1-P1/Z1-A8 16 Bit LVD SCSI Disk Drive (36400 MB) Manufacturer................IBM Machine Type and Model......ST336607LC FRU Number..................00P3068 ROS Level and ID............43353048 Serial Number...............000780F7 EC Level....................H12094 Part Number.................00P2676 Device Specific.(Z0)........000003129F00013E Device Specific.(Z1)........1217C511 Device Specific.(Z2)........0002 Device Specific.(Z3)........03326 Device Specific.(Z4)........0001 Device Specific.(Z5)........22 Device Specific.(Z6)........H12094 |
