I had an issue installing java under 5.3 and what I had do under smitty was to only install the sdk file.

I put the files in a clean directory, ran smitty from there and put a '.' when it asked for location. Select only the .sdk file and run that. It picks up the license file on it's on.

I'm not on my system right now but I think that's it.

after downloading and unpacking the files, let's say to /tmp/Java run the commands:

inutoc /tmp/Java
installp -d /tmp/Java -L

you should see a fileset with the name license in it. If not, perhaps your download was incomplete.

p.s. I assume you are installing on 64-bit hardware.

Thanks for the suggestion Michael. I had ensured that that option was enabled.

What I have done since is to download the 32 bit Java package and this installed without complaints.I noticed there was at least one difference between the 32 bit install and the 64 bit install. The 32 bit install recognised the licence file as a package to be installed; the 64 bit install did not. This leads me to believe that perhaps the 64 bit licence did not unpack correctly -  however I did download the install file at least 3 times

In the smity dialog look towards the bottom of the screen. There is a line that you need to change to 'yes'.

excerpt:
Quote
  Process multiple volumes?                                yes                    +
ACCEPT new license agreements?                      no                     +
Preview new LICENSE agreements?                    no                     +

The + means you can use F4, or ESC+4 to see a list of choices.

I'm a AIX novice - please bear with me..

I'm trying to install Java14_64_sdk on an Aix 5.2 server

I've copied the ff files to a separate directory:
Java14_64.ext
Java14_64.license
Java14_64.sdk

I then run smitty installp, point to the above directory and choose the Java14_64.sdk (all) to install. The preview run fails on the ff:

  LICENSE AGREEMENT FAILURES
  ------------------
The installation cannot proceed because the following filesets
require software license agreement files which could not be found
on the system or installation media:

        Java14_64.sdk

What am I doing wrong?
