When ordering from IBM it is the FRU (Field Replacement Number) that is important, as part numbers are subject to change.

Getting the FRU is easy - use lscfg

I'll ask the vendor about exchanges - I've just never seen two disks of the same model be different before. I guess that IBM buys the disks and then tweaks them ... Huh

Well, depends on whether you can return it or not. You might try loading some pSeries firmware to it - if you can have it attached at all.

If your seller was an IBM BP, or IBM, obviously, need to head back to them.

In other words, my best guess is that the physical disk is the same, but the firmware, and drivers will need to be different.

Not a pleasant surprise.

ST318305LC in P4 610

Hey All-
I bought an ST318305LC to replace one in my 610, and I can't get the system to even boot off the cdrom if the disk is in the system. I pop it out, and the system goes on its merry little way. Upon closer inspection, though both disks are ST318305LC's, the new one has "xSeries" on the label, instead of "pSeries" and the PN is 24P3674 instead of 09P4436. Jumpers on both disks are set the same. Any ideas?
